Fancy Pants is a great addition! The song was fantastic and I liked how well the episode flowed. Some of these Manes are really getting great character development in these more focused episodes.

Loved the episode. Here are some funny and interesting details that I noticed. Canterlot is connected to Ponyville by train. Since the Grand Galloping Gala is coming up again, that means Twilight has lived in Ponyville for about a year. Rarity thinks training the Wonderbolts is more impressive than saving their lives. The party cannon literally fires parties.

This was a great episode by the way. Something we all can all like instead of the polarizing episode of last week. Rarity's being Rarity, which I can all enjoy. Fancypants and that hot girlfriend of his are my new favorite minor characters. Sorry Soarin'. I was just involved in an internet calm debate flamewar over Twilight's human ethnicity. The joke was that people complained Applejack was one of the least focused on in the last season, and hoped she'd appear more in S2. And that she did, beating all of the other mane 6 in appearances.

...30 seconds later. XD When Twilight burst in and said "SURPRISE!" all I could hear is Pinkie's song when she did that to Twilight.

I really dug that episode. Rarity isn't my favorite pony, but she's certainly earned her place in my heart at number three behind Dash who's behind Fluttershy. The song was fresh and while the story was predictable, it was still a lot of fun to watch.

Haven't really posted here since I left the guild, but this is still my go-to MLP site, and this episode was good enough that I feel compelled to comment on it (especially after last week's train wreck).
I'm not really a Rarity fan at all, but I don't mind episodes that focus on her because they tend to make her character more complex and interesting. I agree that the plot and lesson were mostly predictable, but it was well written and well paced. The part where she doused Opal cracked me up. Visual humor is one of the greatest strengths of this show.
Anyway, I was saying that the plot was MOSTLY predictable, but I think with one important exception. For all intents and purposes, Rarity "got away with it." I was expecting the cliched I-Love-Lucy style scene where all the lies come crashing down, but It never happened (Twilight even unwittingly reinforced the deception). Sure, at the end when forced to make a final decision she chooses her friends, but she never came clean about all the stuff that happened before that. Maybe we're just supposed to infer that it happened offscreen, but I'm not so sure. It feels more realistic that the situation was left slightly unresolved, since that's likely how something like that would really play out.
Hopefully there will be more episodes of this level of quality and last week can just be an anomaly.

She's the winner of the Best Young Flyer competition and the only pony to ever perform a Sonic Rainboom You event conflicts with my friend's birthday party? I'm sorry, I'm already scheduled for an exclusive party with Princess Celestia's premier student.
