Smuggler: Phluta’sheye, Twi’lek Female
Alignment: Light (but a little greedy)
I started playing an Imperial Agent not too long after release. He’s still only level 4, but I got a taste of the cover system and all that goes with this type of character. I wasn’t impressed. It was nice being able to blow away an enemy in a single sniper shot, but there was something missing. Maybe it was the melee. Maybe it was the Force powers. I wasn’t sure. I put him on the back burner.
Fast forward to about a week ago. I decided that I was going to play every class to the point where they’ve done the first flashpoint. I had some characters already created, but decided to roll up a Smuggler. I had completed the Trooper prologue not too long before this and was familiar with Ord Mantell at that point so I figured ‘Hey, why not?’.
I don’t know what happened, but I really began to enjoy playing this style of character. I’m still not crazy about the cover mechanic, but I have a feeling it’ll get better. I knew the quests and the Smuggler was just about as powerful as the Trooper, albeit more flashy. I had no difficulty and didn’t end up dying on Ord Mantell except once, but that was because I drew the aggro of a group of three mobs, but then suddenly the entire room of about a dozen came after me. :p
The story is compelling. It was nice that I showed up of my own volition instead of being dropped for whatever reason. Being a captain of my own ship and a Smuggler, I couldn’t help but feel a little bit like Han Solo, but of course that’s what they were going for. Corso is a great companion. He’s a player, or at least thinks he is, and generally wants the “right” thing. Being Light, he was great and didn’t really disagree with too much I did. I let the pirate go in the end, and I lost a point for that, but I didn’t want the DS points. Besides, I knew I could buy his lover afterwards.
The fact that you get to take Corso with you on the last stretch is really nice, too. That’s a LONG little fortress to go through solo and I can attest to this as my Trooper. It probably didn’t help that I dinged 11 while I was in there.
For my advanced class, I chose Scoundrel. Yes, I’ll miss being a total badass with two blasters, but I’m going to be a healer with this character.
I jumped into an Esseles group right after I got my new class and gear and it was a fun time. There was a Vanguard Trooper and a Sentinel Jedi with me. I guess Smugglers don’t really heal that much, because the Jedi I was with remarked “Lol. I didn’t even know Smugs could heal”. But, I WAS healing, which it turns out I didn’t really have to do all that much of excepting the big fights. Just having that on hand was nice, though. I was still able to roll behind cover most of the time and put out some damage. We didn’t have any trouble and no one died. I got a bunch of LS points from it and dinged 12 while inside.
I’m now on Coruscant, ready to jump into the slums and get my ship back. Overall, it’s a good story. I will eventually finish it, but this character is probably lower on my priorities than others.
