So what does everyone think about the new warzone "Huttball" shown at Gamescom this week? Do you like it, not happy about it, or are you more of the "whatever, just give me some muffins!"?

I think it has the possibility to be a very fun diversion, especially as I read somewhere (don't recall where Muffins!?! ) that you can play against your own faction. I'm not a big PvP person, but if it's fun or meaningful to me I can then get into it. One of the aspects that caught my attention was the Czerka corporation/hutt sponsor spin helps me with a RP reason for the occasional match for my characters. It also just looks fun.

On a side note, for the Sages, there is some speculative evidence to show that the Project skill might actually have a multiple debris table. SO awesome!

Yeah, in TotalBiscuit's gameply video, the Bioware rep said that you'll be able to compete against your own faction in Huttball.

But... did I miss a video of Huttball in action, or what? I'll look around, and edit this post with my opinions on it if I find it.

Edit: Watched the short trailer for it, and from what I saw, it looks.... interesting. On the outside, it looks to be a simple 'get the ball past the line on your side of the room to score' game. Look at it a bit more in-depth, though, I've made some observations:

- Holding the ball slows the player down, possibly making it so he can't attack, as well. If so, would require good teamwork to keep the carrier defended.
- It's possible to pass to other players. If there's any balance at all, passing will have a cooldown, and possibly, the further away your target is, the longer the cast time for 'throwing' is.
- Landing a killing blow on someone holding the huttball will cause you to pick it up.
- No indication whether it'll be solely time-based, or time-based that can end sooner if a certain goal limit is reached.

It looks like it might be fun, if the mechanics of holding/throwing the ball are properly balanced. It's certainly different than most PvP match-types in other MMOs.

This is the only video I can find on Huttball:

It's not enough for me to form an opinion on whether or not I will like it. However, I am very happy to see that they are putting significant effort into giving players a broad scope of activities to keep the game from getting stale.

Dammit Twi, that video was posted literally less than ten minutes after I made my post. I knew I should have waited for the Friday update! Anyway, it does look like a lot of fun, I'm sure I'll at least dabble in it. The video did say the players were determined by random draw, but I hope we could still play on a team together.

I'm sure they will still allow grouping, it'd be kinda silly if they didn't. Yea I saw the update and decided to check here to see if anypony missed it Razz

Just watched it over at the ToR site. It looks interesting. It's goal driven PvP, but a very simple goal that's more that just some CTF. The simple fact that the ball can be passed is going to make it much more interesting. I'll play it every so often. PvP is just not my thing, but even in WoW I ended up doing it every so often just for a change of pace. It'd be nice if we had a guild Hutball team as well. Maybe once the server goes live there will be a thread for guilds to sign up for a bracketed tournament or something like that. Maybe they'll have an event every month/year/whenever for each server where there will be an actual Huttball tourney. Either way, i'll play it for kicks every once in a while. Smile

I really like the idea behind hutt ball I'll defiantly try it out. I remember being stuck in AV with trolls and people that didn't do anything sometimes you just want to bash you own teams face in and hutt ball allows that Muffins!?! really hope they keep the announcer though, after grinding the WZ for awhile I could see him getting annoying. it also seems a lot better then a simple capture the flag game where 1 person just runs the flag home. it is more team involved it looks like its a smaller map so there will be a lot more confrontations and you will need to rely on your team to back up the ball carrier and be ready if the ball gets thrown to intercept/block or catch it depending where you are/ what team your on. SO awesome!

Definitively looks interesting, I'm not big into PvP but I could see how this could look up to be rather fun. I like the idea of a goal-driven PvP area, as opposed to an area where the whole point is to just run in and slaughter the opposing side, changes the pace up some. I also like the idea that factions are immaterial in the war zone, the game providing new factions to work with meaning that things such as inter-guild disputes amongst guilds of the same faction could be settled here.

On a side note I couldn't help but laugh at the end of the video when it suddenly turned into a Czerca (sp?) corporation commercial.

Well, it seems I looked in the wrong place to find Huttball videos, though the only difference was hearing some odd announcing in english rather than whatever language the youtube videos were in. We won't be able to see what it's like until we get some first-hand experience.

Hopefully there'll be more than one arean, and, if not, have random obstacles that spawn differently each game.

Ooh, nice. Will have to watch it closely and pick it apart.

Edit: I'll nitpick tomorrow, see if I can't find some abilities.

But, a couple things I enjoyed: the Gunslinger at 12:20 played that really well. Stunned the first enemy with a grenade of some type, and Dirty Kick stunned the second enemy for the goal.

Also, at the end, the Commando had the most medals. He was both doing damage AND healing. I like playing classes that can do that(the most memorable being the Warrior Priest in WAR before they made the class incredibly easy to play).

I was a little discouraged at first when the announcement came through about it. ( Not a very big sports fan ) But when I watched a match I was pleasantly surprised. Even though the players were very inexperienced ( Understandably so ) I was very entertained and I'm certainly looking forward to it now. I wasn't big on pvp in other games, this looks like it could push me more in the pvp direction, at least for games like huttball.

I support the in-guild matches too! Would be fun!

I know same faction Huttball games are allowed. They can go like so;

-Republic vs. Empire
-Republic vs. Republic
-Empire vs. Empire

The only thing that is confirmed which we won't see is Republic and Empire members working together on the same team. I'm sure they will have party support so you can choose who to play against though.

tl;dwatch video

I am indifferent. It doesn't offend my sense of what belongs in Star Wars, but it's not something that increases the likelihood of me buying the game.
