Shhh!!! She's sensitive about it.

I don't think they actually have legitimate tails, as such, but just have really, really long hair (the 'tails' all seem to have points of origination far above the Coccyx and are just extensions of the main hair - AJ, RD, and Flutters all show this to the best effect, although admittedly Rarity, Pinkie and Twilight really do look like they have actual tails). That does not of course excuse how bloody ridiculous it all looks so far.

I think I'll just be pushing this aside with a ten-foot-bargepole and moving on.

I feel like they made Twilight human JUST to give her a love interest.

This makes no sense! They use hooves to HOLD things but can't use hands? WTF? AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGHHHH! I'm still giving it the benefit of the doubt because DHX and we all smirked at the notion of MLP but why? WHY? We've spent over 2 years trying to convince people that we are not that weird and then Hasbro does this to us...

I gotta say, my expectations were raised quite a bit when I saw that trailer.

Points:

1. Twilight going into the world by herself makes it a lot more interesting as a premise - she is now left alone to wend her way through this world, and even through those whom are her other-worldly friends. And, heck, that would allow for some good character development - still much needed for Twi - and a call-back to all those lessons that she had learned. Living by those lessons would verify their usefulness in everyday life.
   
2. All the "humans" being "ponies" in this world makes the initial fear and joke of "skin condition syndrome" obsolete as a problem whilst fitting in. The joke is still worth making, however. Humans look weird multi-coloured, but at least this removes the issue of "pony-human in a human world", giving us an even weirder solution of "pony-human in a pony-human world because the laws of alternate universes, and even Rule 34b, might indeed indicate and imply that there might be a slim chance of this having occurred somewhere, somehow, and because we said so".
   
3. The high-school setting makes sense; there are few situations weirder for the awkward, anti-social and 'unique' teen than starting a new school where he/she knows nobody. And here, for Twilight, that is exactly what she's going through (in fact, worse, as her friends are also there but have no idea who the fuck she is). This real-world connection emphasises what its target audience is, but in a way which should, supposedly, connect effectively to them.
   
4. Sunset Shimmer is an interesting villain, although she is admittedly the typical high-school "show us what you got, newbie" bully. I don't think Twilight herself has ever come across such a bully in the show, so for her, it's a new experience; again, the lessons of friendship will come into their own here, as this will be a new lesson for her to learn. It's also new for us, as we've ne'er seen another of Celestia's students before.
   
5. At least the characters no longer have wings or their cutie-marks on their cheeks. Admittedly, the cutie-marks is a system that is incredibly stupid in this new world, but the cheeks were probably the best place to stick 'em. Still, good to see them gone and the marks relocated for good.
   
6. I wasn't aware until now that this was done by the same team. I'm confident therefore that they can make this a lot better than people are making it out to be, which is something that they have proved with the show already. We'll still have to wait and see, but inferences make it a lot more impressive.

It's not all "sunshine and blue sky" with no problems, however.

1. Spike. I like the theory of him being a dog in the new universe, but there's one thing in particular which is problematic. Twilight is heavily implied to have gone into this world alone - she spirals along on the crest of a wave through the portal by herself. It would seem that there is no record (yearbook photos, another of Celestia's students) of "human" Twi having existed in the new world. Not only that, but her physical body is required for her to go through the portal, meaning that there is very little chance that "human" Twilight is possessed by her. Such possession would also be pointless in-story; whilst "our" Twi would learn from the experience, "human" Twi would be left completely clueless and alone following the splitting of the two consciousnesses, unless she was somehow aware of all that transpired around her, which would probably scar her for life. So, with the resolution that Twi is alone, a completely new visitor to that world, and without any links whatsoever, where the hell does Spike come from?
   
2. The CMC are present in this school. What sort of a high school is this?

I still probably won't watch it, but I think more highly of it than I did before.
