Subject: UI Customisation Review Wed Apr 04, 2012 11:24 am
I have found this article which provides rather in depth look into the upcoming UI customisation.
Overall Dulfy's articles are very useful, if you go through the links on the linked site there are also tips on post 1.2 PvP gearing and many good class guides (but those are generally pre 1.2 atm)
There is also a video on swtor.com but isn't quite as informative.
This is actually exactly what I had in mind for my quickslots:

Oooh hoo hoo! That looks freakin' handy. I'll be able to pay attention to more cooldowns simultaneously!
- I'll probably be moving my health bars to a more classic location at the top of the screen. That way, I can pay attention to the action and buffs/debuffs more easily. In theory, anyways. The way it currently is discourages my eyes from actually watching the action going on in the middle of the screen unless I'm channeling something, which can be a hamper to my experience.
- I also plan to put the chat window(s) near my hotkeys. That way, I may notice when silly conversations are going on in guild chat while I'm using my abilities. This will also prevent characters in cutscenes from having their faces covered by a wall of text. xD (Is there a way to have chat windows automatically disable during cut scenes?)
I'm going to like having multiple filters on the map window active at the same time.

The default WoW UI is actually one of the selectable premade UI's called 'Retro'. It places your char's interface, your target and target of target on the top left, the map to top right, and chat to bottom left. You can then make more alterations using that as a base.

I finally got around to watching this and all I can say is thank goodness! There are a few elements that I would like to pull around my screen a bit. I may also redo my bound keys and such once this update hits too.

The only thing I would want to change about the current UI is to make the buff/debuff icons bigger, but it looks like that is the one thing that they left out.

EEEEyep! Would love that too, really hard to watch my procs on those tiny icons.
