PostSubject: My Jedi knight armor.[Picture heavy]   Wed Jul 06, 2011 5:46 pm

(I am a little lazy right now. This is mostly copy paste from my other forum.)

OK. So I am currently working on a Jedi armor from The old Republic.

This is the first time I ever make something out of foam.

I am trying to mix two of the only really good pictures I have seen of the armor so far.

*Picture property of Bioware*

*Picture property of Bioware*

These two i am trying to get combined into one armor.

Enough talk. PICTURE TIME!

*I decided to hide them all under spoilers to save space on the page.*
*It would be just too much to scroll trough..*

Spoiler:

That's it for the armor piece pictures.
now for some POSING!

Spoiler:

Time for some CLOSE-UPS!
*Warning. Contains close-ups of the codpiece*

Spoiler:

That was many pictures to control. I hope it was everything.

The color scheme I have planned for this is light blue with a few rainbows here and there. I have to look like my Mane you know. Razz

And as my work continues I would like to hear what you think of my armor so far.

If someone wants to read more comments on this suit:
It can be found here.

And may the Friendship be with you.

Coming from someone with costume experience, that is fucking epic! I did Starkiller and all he had was a chest plate, but you have a full suit to handle. Looks like you are off to a great start though!

Thanks guys. I must admit, I like the comments on this forum a LOT more than the ones on my other forum. Very Happy

Three small questions:
Should I make the Jedi cloak in rainbow colors?
Or should I just go for the regular brown one?
Perhaps even make two cloaks. one rainbow and one brown?

Either way. Does anypony know how to make them?

I know how to make cloaks, sorta. I do know how to sew, providing I have a pattern. That's going to be where you're going to need to look is for a cloak pattern. As for the colour, depends on what you're going for. If you're going for a Rainbow Dash Jedi, then Rainbow. If you're going for traditionalist then go for brown. Either way you sir, are 20% cooler.

I could try and get my sister to help you out, she has like 100+ cosplay friends, but she is always busy so I promise nothing XD.

You could always buy a cloak and die it a color, but I wouldn't try rainbow unless you have some awesome cloth and dying supplies.

I just thought I should give a very small update on my progress.

Beginning Monday i will try to get the rest of what I need, including paint.
So I would just like to ask what you think of my color-scheme.
Does the brown cloak really go with the blue armor?confused

And a little something about how I picture a rainbow cloak.

Also, just for the heck of it: Mah Lightsaber! (Not really Razz)

Don't ask me what it is. I have no idea. I just hope it wasn't part of something valuable before I cut it. >.<

Brown cloak looks fine if you go that way, just make sure it is a good light brown. If it is too dark then it will look meeeh. I like the designs!

I think I like the rainbow cloak better, but that would probably be a LOT harder to make. The armor colors are great either way.

I agree with Fluttershy, the brown cloak looks better than the rainbow one does. As for your 'Lightsaber', it looks like it was a part of some woodwork, probably from the last one thousand years, might be valuable. Let me know when to exhume your corpse to reanimate it!

Let's have a little brainstorm on the shoes for this armor.

I need to make them look something like this.
http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/jedi-knight

But if I try to just glue it on top of some other shoes it gets too thick and looks wrong (the foam I'm using is 19mm thick).
If I split the foam to half it's thickness it bends and just look like cloth.
If I make shoes of foam and nothing else, the glue won't hold them together.

Any ideas on how I can make something like that without making it look bad?

And one more thing; Do anyone have any "blueprints" for the Jedi robe. I finally found a place with cheap fabric, but I need to know what the hay I'm supposed to do with it... Or if I should just go with a pre-made one from the internet.

I'll go with basting gravy on that one. The rainbow one seems less paradigmaly dissonent. I guess light brown will be fine too.

For the shoes Rainbow, I would try using Wonderflex for getting the initial shape of the armor. It is really easy to use and a very forgiving material. I used it on my Starkiller cosplay at PAX Prime last year and it worked wonders. To add thickness and more broad shapes to the boots I'd then try cutting the foam the way you like it. Then just paint it the color you want and seal it.

As for the cloak you've got me there. I don't have too much experience with fabrics, but a cloak wouldn't be too hard if you have some tailoring experience. The toughest part would be the hood. If you can try and find on pre-made, or hire a professional/talented friend to help you with it.

You can buy Wonderflex at CosplaySupplies.com, and they also have a lot of tutorials, including ones on how to use Friendly Plastic (it helps smooth the Wonderflex).

Looking purty good, though I'm not sure if a rainbow cloak would look out-of-place on armour that's mained light blue. I think a light brown would work best, like Fluttershy said. I'd offer more input, but... I really have no experience when it comes to foamwork, or sewing, or making costumes of any sort.

I wanted to take pictures with my armor on. But that is currently drying it's primer and most of the parts are taped on several places. It's impossible to wear right now...

The arms are a bit long. Muffins!?!

If I remember correctly this is one of the Jedi meditation poses. I think..

And finally : A pose with my imaginary light saber. Yay~!

Really tiny update coming along. I finally found out where to buy paint in (almost) the right color yesterday. Cupcaaakes~!

It turned out a little lighter than I expected tough...

So here's a picture of my chest-piece in color and with the symbols I'll glue on it after the paint dries completely and I'm happy with it. :3

I'm completely representing the guild this Halloween. Yay~!

Also. Does anypony know of a way to make the goggles the Wonderbolts have on the show?
I think I might need some accessories for my armor beside the Lightsaber .
All the guides I can find so far are about goggles for your pony figurines... And I need a life-size one. Confounded ponies...

Well, here's a video that gives you a basic idea. I'm sure there are a hundred like it out there.

http://www.threadbanger.com/episode/iST_20080826

I'm sure you can modify them however you deem fit!

P.S. AWESOME job on the chest piece! Very Happy

P.P.S. I don't know what your plans are for a lightsaber, but this is a site that helped me build my very first saber (Style VIII modified). If you have the means, they have some great stuff on the site. It's all DIY hardware store parts, so they come out relatively cheap as well!

Thanks Doombah. Very Happy
Now I just need a baseball.. Not easy to find around here... Should probably make that part out of something else.

I've looked at the different types of Lightsabers out there and the prices in my local shop.
Those parts aren't cheep in my town..... Nothing is cheap in my town. >_<
I think I'll just go with a toy-store one in round one. :3 Perhaps make a good one later when I have a little more time and money.

What are you using for the symbols? Did you print them on photo paper? They look like profession stickers!

FINALLY!!
At this point I can finally say the costume is done!

I was worried that it would be cold in it but I'm almost boiling when I wear it. :3
Anyway. Have some photos.

I'm still trying to figure out what I was looking at.

Yes. The light-saber is Photoshopped. The "blade" is just way too short on it.

My current Wonderbolt styled goggles

Can this be considered a double rainbow?

I just had to. Muffins!?!

If everything goes as planned I'm gonna wear this when I pick up the game. Cupcaaakes~!
