PostSubject: TOR waning interest   TOR waning interest I_icon_minitimeThu Jan 05, 2012 3:31 am

man, it has been a great few weeks and I am almost level 35 even with over a week of down time (family and such) but there is a problem. . .

the first week i was non stop playing.
Christmas with the fam got in the way but then I had another few solid days of play
now I have the time but my interest is just slowed down

the story has me hooked but the game play is repetitive and pretty predictable. then wen I get into PvP it is almost always imbalanced to one side with seldom encountered even matches. Right now I am looking for a reason to keep on shelling out funds to play.

anyone got words of wisdom?

Are you really that bored already? Was this your first MMO or have you played others? I played WoW for 5 years and this game is such a breath of fresh air. Yeah, it can get a little repetitive after a while but you can't make every quest unique, unfortunately. I just hit 36 myself and can't wait to see where the story is going to go!

I've also started another toon or two. I have a Trooper who's going to be Dark and an Imperial Agent who's going to be Light.

Playing a character or class or alignment that your not used to can help give you a new perspective on the game. Smile

I agree with the PvP. I've only been in like, 5 matches, but it's usually a slaughter one way or another. Of course, when all the Imps are 50 and Republic is all sorts of levels, things are bound to turn out one way over the other.

My suggestion: keep at it. Either get your current character to 50 or start a new one to take a break from your main.

tl;dr Do something different!

Stop.

If you don't feel like playing, then you shouldn't keep paying for it. Your characters won't go anywhere, and you can pick back up when your interest waxes again. I think the game will continue to add new subscribers for quite some time, so there should always be people to play with.

But an MMO should never feel like an obligation. I think that if you played for 60 hours and had fun, which it sounds like you did, you've already gotten your money's worth. Quit now while you're still in your 'free' month.

We'll still welcome you back. You're pony.

I agree with Chewbacabra if the games not fun anymore don't pay to play it you're still welcome on the forums and in mumble to hang out with fellow ponies but forcing yourself to play a game you don't like is only going to make you hate the game even more.
did you pick up the game because you wanted to play it or because there was a pony guild in it? I know a lot of our members only picked up the game cuz they seen our guild on EQD.

I hear you, I really do.

I'm not a hardcore MMO player by any measure, and usually don't last more than a few months. I'm pretty reserved and play solo for the most part, then burn out and quit. I've been anticipating this game for quite a while since it's somewhat of a fusion of single-player and MMO rpg.

For my part, I think the voice acting and dialog choices have gone a long way to making the world feel less pointless and more vivid, but you can still feel the pretty standard MMO substrate upon which the game is fundamentally based.

I knew even with the story enhancements I might still burn out if I tried to just solo it from end to end, so I decided to take a chance and join a guild. I floundered a bit, but long story short, I decided to stick here. I made that decision for perhaps the same reason you're asking this question at all instead of just deciding to quit outright.

The people.

As Chewbacabra and Applejack point out, this isn't the kind of place where you're out-on-your-ass if you don't meet some time quota or aren't fully geared or whatever (I have two jobs already and don't need a third). It's a group of friends sharing an activity. I think the fact this guild had a thriving community months before the game was even OUT proves my point.

I think the crux of the problem here is the mad, frenzied dash of a new release where it's easy to feel like you're missing the wave and falling behind. That's an illusion though and won't last. The level cap isn't going anywhere for a long time, and I'll get there when I get there.

I guess the long and short of it is play when you feel like, don't when you don't, and hang out here in the meantime Smile

Do not play (and pay for) a game that bores you!

I have played another MMO before, for a few years on and off but I always came back to it. I had fun but in the last few years I hardly had time to play and only carried on because I had a mid-high lvl toon. I then got increasing fed up with the game as a whole as well as my guild. I left the guild, joined another one which was even worse. I was then subconsciously just looking for a reason to stop. And then I got hacked which was the final nail in the coffin. In retrospect it was probably a good thing but try avoiding going through that in a game.

As far as TOR is considered I was always interested in it but I thought I might give it a go 'sometime'. Then I decided to check out what all the pony bug was about and got hooked. Saw this guild on EqD, joined, got into beta and eventually decided to preorder. So far I am not bored by the game, perhaps because I don't usually have more that 3-4 hours a day to play it so it does not feel like a chore. You might want to try playing a lot and then a little to see which is better for you. If you only play as a treat after hard days' work it might be more enjoyable for you.

As far as the guild goes, I like that it does not matter how fast you level and nobody will scream at you if you bugger it up in a flash or op. ATM the guild seems a bit divided by levels but that's only natural and eventually all members will have 50's so it's a short time issue.

My only criticism is that often I hear conversations on mumble discussing items which are then linked to somewhere else. While I know I can't use the items now, I would still like to see them because the more we know about the game the better we will be when we reach 50.

You might just be a bit burnt out from playing too much during the first few weeks. Perhaps you should try pacing yourself a bit more until your free month is up. But like the others have said, if you don't find it entertaining, just quit. I know I would feel burnt out already if it weren't for this guild. Even the most tedious activities in game are fun with this group. Perhaps you should drop in Mumble with us sometime?
