So, this weeks update at TOR main site is the first few minutes of the Eternity Vault Operation as seen from an Imperial perspective.

http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/eternity-vault-developer-walkthrough

I think this is just fantastic. It's a level 50 operation and you see some awesome combat abilities in these fights!

It seems to me that it took far too long for them to drop that boss even with the time lapse. I hope this isn't a sign that large boss fights will end up being like the infamous Absolute Virtue from FFXI Online.

The entire thing took 9 minutes, including the conversation at the beginning. Assuming that big droid was a boss, that's not a long time, especially since the group didn't seem especially well organized.

It seemed like a typical raid attempt. The first few times are rough like that, but eventually they are just a steppping stone to the next boss.

hmm the first fight looked way to simple, tank n spank till he does his aoe missiles which is when everyone hides and when he does his lock on attack big healz on the target while the individual runs away from the group however the sneak peak looked like there was a lot more fights that require more coordination lets hope their not all as easy as the first boss looked. Cupcaaakes~!

Well they have said that this OP is only to get you geared for the real endgame content, so I would think it would be easier than the other OPs.

I don't know whether to be frightened or excited by that statement.

I agree that it did look fairly easy on the surface. On the other hand, it is the first boss, so it shouldn't be overly difficult either. However, there are at least two other mechanics going on in that fight;

* Mid-range knock-back with a range of at least 12.5m (likely 15m), can't tell if it's just a front arc or 360 sweep. -- Hard to say what triggers it. Might be dependent on # of people within a certain range. Guessing from when he does it, I would say when 4 or 5 players are in range.

* Random missile targeting. There are other targeting reticules on the ground that need to be avoided. You can see it really well @ 8:35-8:40, note that this is not his missile barrage.

Other things to consider:
* We don't know how well geared the group was.
* We don't know how many times that group played the Op. prior. It's one thing to have someone read or tell you the strategy, but when you're actually in the thick of it, it's a whole other ball game.

* It's a two phase fight, with the turrets and droids as phase one, with a transition of about 20s till the annihilator droid has landed and can be attacked. Depending on how well you manage your resources during the first phase will dictate how easy/difficult phase two starts out. Granted phase one seemed fairly cake, though kind of hard to tell how many droids there actually are. I know there are 8 at the start.

* There's always hard mode. Twisted Evil

this is unavoidable dmg that all melee will have to deal with the healer will simply heal through it because the dmg it does is so small and your range should already be standing far enough away they wont have to worry about it

from what I can see the radius of those attacks are small and its not like fire in WOW that has a dot effect it could easly be healed through however if you want to stay on you healers good side its a simple side step nothing to worry about

this was played by random people at gamescom in Germany I believe so they didn't get much if any practice and they would have been set up in current tier gear which means it should still be fairly hard to do.

I don't think it is a 2 phased fight I think after you down the turrets you are free to heal and sit back it only looked like a 2 phaser because the tank ran in right as he finished talking.

Well, i'm looking at this like i'd look at any first boss in a raid. Once you learn the mechanics of the fight, it simply becomes about everyone knowing what to do and knowing their class well enough to not stand in the fire. It seemed like everyone was doing their job, but given that these people were given control of characters they weren't invested in and haven't had a chance to really play around with it's an acceptable outcome.

I've been on a few raids where there is just this last push to burn the boss down and health be damned. Most of the time it's worked...sometimes it doesn't. That's usually just a sign that you need better gear to burn faster.

If the level cap is 50, which all signs point to, then this will be the equivalent of getting to 80 in WoW and going to Naxxramas to try and take down Kel'Thuzhad. It's going to be a royal pain at first, but trial and error and Heroics/Crafting for better gear made that seemingly insurmountable challenge a breeze after a few months.

Actually I don't even know if that's a good analogy. If this is a lower level Operation, then it's the same as doing say...I don't know...Vault of Archavon or there about. Maybe Obsidian Sanctum.

Sorry for those that aren't versed in WoW speak. :/

I look forward to getting guildies together and going through Operations, but I don't know if I want to just blow through leveling or really, really take my time with it and fully enjoy the game. I'll probably end up doing a little bit of both. Throw in some crafting and i'm looking to hit 50 within two months of launch. Maybe sooner depending on what's what.

Actually, during the video Dallas specifies that they know to get out of LoS for the missile barrage, so they've definitely run it more than once. Also, from the other two videos of the demo from Gamescom, in one you hear the presenter specifically state that this is their demo team and they have been practicing the fight. Besides, everything I've seen thus far at the cons/expos they haven't allowed non-BW staff to play Ops, only starter worlds, low level PvP, and the first flash point.

Anyhow, as you mentioned, it does look fairly easy which is fine I think. There will likely be a bunch of new folks to the genre and my guess is that BW doesn't want to monkey stomp them with their first taste of operations.

On the plus side, it just means us skilled folks will get to the second encounter that much quicker and/or get more creative with our strategies. geek

Right there with you hoss. I don't plan on blowing through leveling, however I can be a bit obsessive when it comes to something I really enjoy, so the levels may just slip past from having so much fun. I'm also an exploration nut, so that might slow me down a bit. 2 months sounds about right for me, possibly less depending on how much free time I will actually have.

I don't really want to blow through stuff thats the reason I quit WoW cata came out and my guild blew through it like nothing patch 4.1 i think it was, was a huge disappointment when they only added the troll dungeons it was like well no point in doing anything the troll instances had weaker gear then the raids and we had all the raid gear and had them on farm so we waited around for firelands to come out and I just quit once I found out they only added 1 new raid and no new instances. starwars will hold my attention a llot better then cata did because cata was nothing more then a blast from the past. " O look im going through deadmines again yay I did this at level 18 5 years ago o whats that Zul' gurubs back I remember that place I solo'd it for the mounts and could walk though the streets with my eyes closed because I ran it so much! Oh no Ragnoros is back? well.. lets beat him back to the fire plain yet again... I know I'll use my Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros to beat him back like I did back then" I mean come on Blizz really Vinilla wow was fun and all but your getting $15 from every player every month the least you could do is come up with some new stuff.... sorry little rant there Muffins!?!

I'm in the same boat. I remember when a group of people and I tried out WAR when it was released, I played much more than they did. I was the first character on the server to reach tier 4 (level 30-40, the last 'tier'), and found out that tier 4 content was incredibly lacking - both in content and fun. I stopped playing not long after, because an MMO with crappy end-game content isn't going to go far.

I'm sure with TOR, though, I'll probably take it a bit easier. There's not really any reason to try to rush ahead of others besides for bragging rights.

Even if there is some time skipping (which I think just seemed to be there because of the perspective switching - events still seemed to line up), it couldn't be too long. WoW being the standard by which everything is judged, whether you like it or not:

Deathbringer Saurfang had an 8 minute enrage timer
Lord Marrowgar had a 10 minute enrage time
The Lich King had a 15 minute enrage timer.
So, even if we have some time jumps, they won't cut out much more than was added on by recording parts from before the fight, so 9-10 minutes isn't huge
